Everything you need to know before getting a piercing
So getting a piercing can be daunting, especially if you haven’t had one yet. But, believe me, they are worth it! And let's face it, it can’t be that bad, or we wouldn’t all have multiple!
Ear piercings have been around for centuries; they are a form of body art and have been used by many cultures as forms of self-expression or social symbols. Today, however, piercings are more popular than ever. A leading fashion accessory and the ‘stacked ear’ has never been more on-trend. We pride ourselves in creating the best-pierced #MMstacks with the most professional piercers who have been in the business years. They are perfectly confident with doing anything from a lobe to a more creative thought you have dreamed about or saw on Instagram (of course, if safe!).
So, what do you need to know before getting a new piercing?
You must be over 18 to be pierced on your own
At Metal Morphosis, we allow junior piercings; however, you must be accompanied by an adult if you are under the age of 18! So if you are under 18 and want to pop by our Carnaby or Hackney store - feel free! Just make sure you bring a guardian along with you!
It is best to get pierced on your own
Sometimes getting a piercing is daunting, and you want to bring a friend, but sometimes this doesn’t give you the reassurance you need or want. Nervous energy between you and your friend can sometimes make you feel more worried, so maybe it is best to go on your own if you are over 18. Or, maybe be wise in choosing a sensible, confident, piercing companion!
Eat something before your piercing appointment
Eating something beforehand can avoid that sick or dizzy feeling you may have heard some people experience. That is essentially caused by low blood sugar combined with your piercing, so eating is best to steady your blood sugar!
Will my piercing be pierced by a gun or needle?
This is always something people discuss. ‘Are you getting pierced with a gun or a needle?’ this isn’t exactly a personal choice. This is dependent on what piercing you are getting, and your Metal Morphosis piercer will always use the correct form of equipment for piercing! So basically, this is not something for you to worry about at Metal Morphosis!
Will my piercing hurt?
We all have a different pain threshold, so this question is very relative to the person and the piercing you are getting. Some piercings are more sensitive than others; a lip piercing for example, is in a more sensitive area than your ear lobe. So to answer this question bluntly, yes, it might hurt, but a piercing is rapid,it will be over in a minute, and it can’t hurt that much because a lot of people have more than one piercing!
Will my piercing bleed?
Initially, your piercing may bleed and may be slightly irritable when first pierced, however this is completely normal! Don’t worry!
What aftercare will my piercing need?
At Metal Morphosis you don’t need to worry about aftercare, we will show you how to clean your piercing and provide you with your very own aftercare - saline solution!
How to spot an Infection with your piercing…
Getting 'lumps' on the back of your piercing is common and not necessarily an infection. These can go away by cleaning your piercing properly. However the UK’s National Health Service also advises that an infected piercing could lead to a high temperature, itching, and pain or tenderness when touching the area. If you do think your piercing is infected don't touch or play with it and seek medical advice.
